Julie Lopez

I grew up in Northville and received an Ornamental Horticulture degree from Ferris State University in 1988. My husband and I have raised three wonderful sons and I am inspired daily by each of them as I try to make this world a better place.

I am currently the Director of Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County and the Regional Director for Crime Stoppers USA (CSUSA), covering Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. I’m also the CSUSA’s Social Media Committee Chair.

I became involved with Crime Stoppers after my father-in-law, Pablo Lopez, a U.S. Air Force Veteran and active community member, had been shot and killed while sleeping in his Flint home in July 2011. During this time, my family and I worked closely with law enforcement, the media, and Crime Stoppers in an effort to find Pablo’s killer. This experience showed me firsthand the trauma and tribulations that victims of crime and their families go through.

As the investigation into my father-in-law’s murder unfolded, I learned a lot about Crime Stoppers and what it could offer victims and their families in the pursuit of justice. I knew I could be an asset to the organization and to other families whose lives have been touched by violent crime. Although Pablo’s murder remains unsolved, I am a believer in the Crime Stoppers program and I work endlessly to help families in their search for justice.

Prior to becoming a part of the Crime Stoppers family, I enjoyed a 25-year career in the horticulture industry. I managed premier garden centers and nurseries, as well as owned and operated my landscape designing and consulting business. My favorite part of this work was teaching gardening classes and helping others in creating beautiful landscapes.

Because of the nature of the topic I deal with in my current occupation, I understand the need to maintain a healthy state of body, mind, and spirit. I decided to become a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils after using them myself and finding the benefits of the oils in helping create balance in my life. I hope I can help others with the same.
